January Classroom Plans
January is here and excitement is in the air! Throughout this month the preschool children will explore winter and all it has to offer. As the month progresses, we will discuss winter animals and hibernation.
English Language Arts
Stories will be read that discuss winter weather, animals, and Martin Luther King Jr. The children will continue focusing on their complete name, first and last. Please practice letters and numbers out of order at home. We are working very hard on recognition.
Our daily calendar time will continue to provide math opportunities (patterns, counting, and repetition). We will focus on number recognition 0-5, as well as tracing and writing the numbers.
Science & Technology/Engineering
We will discuss the concepts of liquids vs. solids. Ice and snowflakes will be topics of discussion as snowflakes are similar to children – all are so unique!
We will discuss winter clothing reminders (hats and mittens everyday) and practice putting them on. We will continue to revisit healthy food choices.
History & Social Sciences
Our dramatic play area remains a kitchen. We serve a lot of yummy meals during creative play.
The children will experiment with “cold colors” (blues, purples, and white) through water colors and finger painting.
